Description of the Flag

Nations Without States (Minahan, 1996) has an entry on Calabar, a region in the extreme southeast of Nigeria. It describes the Kalabari flag as a horizontal bicolor of red over green with a yellow cross over all (from the line drawing it is seen to be of the same shape as St. George's cross), and a star (color not specified) in the upper hoist.
Ned Smith, 21 Feb 2001

My sources speak about a yellow star in the upper hoist canton. The symbolism of the flag is: the flag uses the Pan-African colours, the cross represents christianity, the star represents the unity of the tribes in the Calabar region.
